What is the Holland Test?
The Holland Test comes from the “Holland Code,” a personality code created by psychologist John Holland. Based on this code, he divided personalities into six groups and defined the professions that match each personality.
To understand better, it’s important to know what personality is. Personality is a pattern of thinking and behavior, meaning a view of how you act, perceive the environment, and think. Individually, our personalities are different, but we share many traits within them.
The test will help you recognize the dominant traits of your personality, your aptitudes, and your affinities and inclinations in the professional field. With this information, you’ll be able to objectively analyze the person you are and get to know yourself better.
How Does the Holland Test Work?
The test consists of questions related to your preferences, which you will answer using a scale from 1 to 5. At the end of the questions, you will find the 6 personality types and the percentage of affinity for each one. After viewing the results, you will be able to compare the careers that are compatible with the personality that predominates the most in you (the personality with the highest score).
Types of Personality
Remember that your personality is made up of a percentage of each personality type, to a greater or lesser degree. Likewise, you’ll see that some professions repeat in certain personalities since each career is identified by 3 personality types. It’s impossible for each of us to have 100% of a single personality, just as a profession can’t be identified with only one personality type.
1. Realistic
This type includes people who like to work with their hands, manipulate objects, have mechanical skills, and generally prefer minimal interaction with others. They also value money, status, and power. Some occupations for this personality type include engineers, architects, farmers, veterinarians, chefs, and doctors, among others.
2. Investigative
This group includes people with analytical skills, who handle abstract ideas and have unconventional values. Their main interest is logic and science. They analyze, evaluate, and solve problems, and they love learning and understanding various events and their causes. Occupations in this type include doctors, psychologists, scientists, and mathematicians, among others.
3. Artistic
This type of personality includes people who possess artistic abilities, are independent, original, and unstructured. They use art as a form of expression, are creative, and value independence. They usually have excellent writing skills. Musicians, actors, journalists, writers, graphic designers, and interior designers are located in this personality and occupational environment.
4. Social
People who enjoy helping others, are cooperative, sensitive, and have excellent interpersonal skills belong to this type. This group includes doctors, teachers, psychologists, social workers, and others.
5. Enterprising
This type includes people who like risks, are aggressive in achieving their set goals. They value power and have the ability to convince others of their point of view. They are extroverted, have leadership skills, and good interpersonal relationships. Some professions in this group include bankers, salespeople, engineers, lawyers, managers, and political science graduates.
6. Conventional
These are organized, detail-oriented, methodical people with organizational skills. They are good at mathematics, enjoy order, and work with minimal interaction with others. Secretaries, accountants, office workers, administrators, and logistics and management graduates are some of the professions in this group.
